Leighton Buzzard 78- Market Bosworth 0

Market Bosworth left a snowy Leicester thinking the game may be postponed. After leaving a sunny Wrights meadow later in the day the probably did wish it had been called off. A fantastic performance from this young Buzzards side showed just how far they have come in the last year as they showed no mercy to a struggling Bosworth side.

From the off Buzzards looked dangerous and moved the ball wide for Wayne Chapman to kick through to the in goal area, unfortunately in the race to touch the ball down Chapman hit his head hard on the ground and was unable to continue due to concussion. After a check up in hospital he was allowed home but will be out for a few weeks.

The try was scored by Lingard and converted by Tom Gibbs.

This was followed by one from Gavin Taylor who lead the pack from all parts of the field. Even when Buzzards were down to 14 men Buzzards kept the scoreboard ticking over. Irwin went over for the first of 4 tries and Captain Branwhite got in on the act with tw tries bisected by a penalty to Gibbs.  On the stroke of half time, with two Bosworth players enjoying 10 minutes rest each Craig beattie  went over for  try number seven in the half and Gibbs stepped up to make it 6 conversions out of seven attempts.

In the second half Bosworth started to play some rugby and managed to get their hands on the ball, however some great defence ensured they were never able to get near the Leighton line and were repelled at every attempt.  Irwin added to his total on 44 and 52 minutes. Leighton were looking good and never under real pressure.  Storming runs from Taylor, lingard, Messum kept the visitors pinned back in their own half and piercing runs by the backs controlled by Beattie and young Sam Janes in midfield controlled ensured the game was never in doubt while further tries for Irwin, Lingard and afinal one for Sam Janes on 77 minutes killed off any contest from the visitors. Four conversions for Gibbs twisted the knife and madfe the final score 78-0. Leighton’s best League score for 3 years.

In the two games these teams have played Leighton have managed to score 108 points with only 6 in reply. Hopefully the weather will allow Leighton to play the re-scheduled fixture against Derby next week  at home. The last 2:15 kick off of the season as the game moves back into spring time kick offs.
