| Under 9s v Bletchley 11th April 2010 |

Leighton Buzzard under 9's had a much needed fixture on Sunday at Bletchley rugby club. This was to help us prepare for the Aylesbury festival in two weeks time. Aylesbury also visited Bletchley and they were our first opponents. Unfortunately Buzzard under 9's came up against a worthy opponent who gave us the heaviest defeat of the season. We went down 20-5. The Buzzards were strong in attack showing improved rucking skills and support play, but the Aylesbury defence was strong and kept us out for most of the game. Harry Charter picked up a try after some great driving play. Time after time the Buzzards gave Aylesbury too much space. This made tackling difficult as Aylesbury and one player in particular who had already gathered too much pace to bring down. This was a good learning experience for the Buzzards and one which they benefited from, as in the second game the Buzzard under 9's tore Bletchley apart. The Buzzard under 9's ran in six tries to one winning the game 30-5. Tries came from Conor Briggs (3), Cameron Burchell(1) and James Oliver(2) who was also Captain for the day. Max Bradfield gave a tremendous performance with some great mauling skills and showed the team how the correct body position greatly helps driving. George Vincent had some great running, Harry Charter gave a typically tough performance. Thomas Pickering and Sam Bramston showed some strong play with great aggression. Abigail Lawrence and Todd Carmichael worked well together around the ruck and Sam Garland was player of the day for being disciplined in his approach and staying in his position out on the wing, he often turned defence into attack with some great tackling and taking the ball up from there. In one particular piece of play he tackled the Bletchley player, stole the ball and made a 20 yard run before offloading to Max Bradfield. The try of the day went to James Oliver. This was because it was a great team try. The Buzzards stole the ball and got it out to Cameron Burchell who took the ball up, Cameron was tackled and offloaded to James who gave great support and took the ball over the try line. The Buzzards sustained some heavy injuries with Harry Charter coming off with a badly bruised finger and Max Bradfield who fell heavily, but we were pleased to see him up and about shortly afterwards. A day great was had by all and now onto the finale of the season at Aylesbury. |
