The main hall of Leighton Buzzard Rugby Club was full of players, parents, coaches and committee members on Friday night to celebrate the end of a great season of mini rugby. The age groups represented at the event were under 7s to under 12s and head coach speeches re-lived great moments of the season and praise for the way the players continue to develop in their teams.

Individual awards went to the following players. Players' Player: Ryan Emery (U7), Ethan Lawrence (U8), Alfie Wilcocks (U9), Oliver King (U10), Louis Beer (U11) and Felix Fiske (U12). Clubman: Austen Lloyd (U7), Dominic Hayman (U8), Scott Masters (U9), Lauren Alouhini (U10), Freddie Stanbrell (U11) and Reece Payne (U12). The mini team of the year went to the U9s coached by Adam Langdale, Harvey Creber and Lee Beaumont.

The club is having an Open Day on Sunday 24th June from 11:00 till 13:00 with BBQ and bar from 12:00 and activities for boys aged 6-14 years and girls aged 6-11 years. If you fancy giving it a go come along and join in the fun!

Leighton Buzzard RFC U12’s End of Season Tour – Camber Sands

After a good season of rugby, the U12’s (picture, minus L. Payne – Hastings A&E) embarked on their first end of season tour, participating in the Camber Sands tournament with teams from across the country.

Whilst fun was the intention of the tour, the team acquitted itself extremely well with some of the best rugby the squad has played. Matching larger squads and physically larger teams with guile and pace, the Buzzards played 9 matches. Highlights included Beer annihilating a player twice his size, and a physical battle with ON’s from Northampton showing the team at its finest. Defending aggressively through Willcock and Murtagh, and attacking strongly through Brett and Walsh, this match saw a scintillating passage of offloading from Stocker, R. Payne and Fiske, demonstrating the quality of this young squad.  So tightly fought a committed contest was this match, that it ended in a fair 0-0 draw.

The first day also saw L.Payne off to A&E and requiring a new collar bone, but receiving the tour’s ‘Magic Moment’ award for his commitment from which the injury resulted.

The second day and some weary heads, saw highlights including the squads committed cheerleaders – complete with pink tutu’s – sent from the touchline for not taking it seriously enough by an officious referee, a 50 yd perfectly placed kick to the corner from B.Williams, and Tabram flattening an attacking giant.

A superb way to round off an excellent season for this committed young team.

The annual summer open day will be on Sunday 24th June.

A flier will be circulated and printed as soon as possible so that it can be distributed to every school in Leighton Buzzard and beyond. If you can volunteer some time to help with the distribution please email me.

Please publicise the date to your squads. We need at least six pairs of volunteers to run the activity areas on the day so please let me know if you are not able to attend otherwise I will assume you will be there.

Any volunteers to visit local schools and promote this would also be good, just let me know if you are able to help.
