I would like to take this opportunity to say that it is a great honour for me to be captaining Leighton Buzzard 1st Team for the 2017-18 season. Since coming over from Ireland 2 years ago, LBRFC has been like a second home to me. Everyone has been extremely welcoming and made me feel part of the club since day one. From the gruelling pre-season trainings, to the exhausting post match sessions, I can honestly say that I have loved every minute of it.

The upcoming season is a very exciting one for us all in LBRFC. Again, this year, we will be competing in the East Midlands 1 League, where we are hoping to improve upon our form from last year. We all saw what we were capable of achieving in our final game against Melton Mowbray last season, where we won with a bonus point with 14 men on the field for the majority of that game. Along with this, we are entering the Beds Cup for the first time in a long time.

There is a new coaching structure in place and I am looking forward to working with our new Head Coach, Tom Mowbray, and our new Director of Rugby, Dave Larham. I am sure they will build upon the fantastic work done by our previous coaches, Alban Turney and Andy Micans as well as the work of Euan Irwin (captain) and Zak Tift (vice-captain).

The 2nd Team will be playing in a merit league this year, which should bring about more competitive games, along with continuity of games, providing players with a platform to break into the 1st team. Moving forward as a club, we need an ultra-competitive 1st and 2nd team who are pushing each other for places for the entire season.

We are always looking for new players and I can tell you from experience that you will not find a more welcoming club to come to than Leighton Buzzard RFC. We train on Tuesday and Thursday at 7pm at Wrights Meadow, LU7 9HR.

I cannot wait for the new season to begin and I hope it’s a successful one for all in Leighton Buzzard RFC.
