A depleted Leighton Buzzard U11 squad made the journey to Biggleswade on Sunday and produced some outstanding rugby in very difficult circumstances, due to the weather. The prevailing snow throughout the morning could justifiably have led to a dip in performance, however, contrary to this the boys rallied and over-powered a Biggleswade team who had been very competitive against Buzzards earlier in the season.
In the first of two matches Buzzards were run-away winners with some strong running and handling throughout the team. Ben Eggleton scored 5 tries supported by Lewis Jeans, Jack Charter, Finlay Rodger, Harry West, Harry Puma, Alex Cartwright and Ben Rogers. The boys applied tremendous pressure on the Biggleswade side giving them little time on the ball and forcing turnover after turnover. Buzzards were both efficient and effective with ball in hand, scoring freely throughout the match giving Biggleswade no time to settle.
In the second match, with the conditions worsening and the snow coming down harder it was an understandably lower scoring game. Nonetheless once again Buzzards prevented Biggleswade from scoring. This is the first time this season the boys have prevented the opposition from scoring and credit must go to all ten lads who played with their heart on their sleeve throughout the morning. In attack Zac Hinds and Archie Corket both scored with Charter and Jeans also touching down. Most pleasing for both coaches and parents was the team-spirit showed by the boys to each other and the opposition. The team were definitely a credit to the Club.
Next week the boys are on the road once again to Tring. Hopefully the snow will hold off this time.
