Buzzards not prepared for Old Scouts
Leighton Buzzard RFC’s dismal start to the season continued at Northampton Old Scouts last Saturday. Despite a stronger side The Buzzards could not match the strength of the Old Scouts pack and succumbed to a 34 points to 7 defeat.
Leighton were behind after only five minutes, being penalised for offside, the resultant penalty being converted. Ten minutes later Old Scouts scored the first try of the game, the conversion being kicked to take the score to 17 – 0 to the home side.
Things got worse for the visitors when Wills Messum had to leave the field after succumbing to a head injury.
Despite a period of extended pressure, The Buzzards could not cross the Old Scouts line and it was the home side who scored again to make the score 24 points to nil at half time.
Leighton reduced the deficit on fifty five minutes when, after a well worked forwards move Chris Forbes crossed the whitewash, Geoff Branwhite converting.
Despite lots of honest endeavour from the visitors, it was Old Scouts who scored two further tries and a successful penalty kick to run out victors by 34 points to 7.
The Buzzards face Old Northamptonians RFC at Wrights Meadow next Saturday (24th September – Kick Off – 3.00pm).
