2nd xv Match Reports 2018 - 2019

2nd xv v Mens Own 19th January 2019

Leighton Buzzard 2nd team travelled the short journey to Northampton Mens Own for a close and undeserving loss. Very early in the game, Leighton Buzzard lost one of their game changers when Ash Walsh twisted an ankle during a tackle.  Leighton Buzzard dominated the first half through strong ball carrying from the forwards which created space out wide for the backs, after a passage of forward play with big ball carrying from captain Ross Bevan and Luke Walsh Leighton Buzzard were able to fashion enough space out wide for Dan Dickinson to finish well in the corner for his first Leighton Buzzard try.

Leighton Buzzard suffered another blow towards the end of the first half when Sam Beaumont, on his senior debut, had to exit the game after taking a knock to the ribs, at a time when he was starting to find spaces in the Mens Own back line.

The second half saw a tighter battle and Leighton Buzzard had to surrender possession and territory to Mens Own, however, Leighton Buzzard did have opportunities to score further tries through breaks from Tony Gear but unfortunately, they were unable to secure the final pass. After a long period where Leighton Buzzard had made substitutions and defended their line with passion, Mens Own finally scored a try under the posts which was converted and handed a 7-5 victory to the Northampton side.

Positives can be drawn from 3 more academy players, Haydon Jones (man of the match), Sam Beaumont and Dane Richards, making their senior debuts, Wayne Chapman returning to rugby after a few years away from the game, strong performances from Luke Walsh, Mike Wears and Ryan Tift.

Well done all, training Tuesday/Thursday  7.30 and touch rugby Wednesday 7 pm.
