2nd xv v Chesham 12th January 2019

Leighton Buzzard  2nd team played a well organised Chesham side at Wright’s Meadow.  It was quickly evident that Leighton had the edge in the scrum, led by Steve Jay, Gary Lowe and Tom Rowse in the front row and this proved to be a good launching pad for Leighton attacks.

Chesham strong runners took an early lead but Leighton responded to level the scores with a push over try by Ben Dumpleton.  Ill discipline by Leighton in the tackle/ break down area, led to 2 yellow cards and Chesham scored a try to take a lead into the second half, despite Peter Lathwell going close with a disallowed try.

Leighton’s 8 and Man of the Match, Ash Walsh, made numerous strong runs and had success with a converted try.  Luke Walsh was prominent in attack and defence and scored a an unconverted try, following a run from half way where he broke thru several tackles.

Ryan Tift had a terrific game, unlocking the Chesham defence to score a converted try and setup an attack with a chip to the line, where quick thinking by evergreen Ross Mounteney kept the ball in play for Mike Wears to touch down.  Welcome debutants, were Julian Gallie from the Academy and Dan Dickinson and Ben Cooper from the 19:00 Wednesday night Touch Rugby Squad.

Final score 29-12 to Leighton.
