2nd xv v Milton Keynes 8th September 2018

Leighton Buzzard Rugby Club second xv v Milton Keynes

Milton Keynes 2nd 19 – 34 Leighton Buzzard 2nd

Leighton 2nds started the new season’s campaign with a good win over local rivals Milton Keynes. Buzzards made a quick start through a Reece Harris-Smith try, quickly followed by another from Kristian Hastings with Jake Wheeler converting. Buzzards kept up the pressure, which was reward with another try from Reece. Some loose passing saw Milton Keynes score an intercept try. Shortly after and following a fine break by Nick Geoghegan riding several tackles to put Reece in open space for his third try of the afternoon, Wheeler converted.

In the second half MK continued to compete strongly and from a turn over scored their second try, talisman Dave Newey broke his humerus in a last-ditch tackle.
Buzzards scrum was strong and on several occasions drove Milton Keynes backwards, the line out functioned exceptionally well with some fine catch and drives, one resulting another. Ross Bevan made series of fierce tackles on MK players to the extent his approaching bulk visibly concerned them. At 24 – 12 Buzzards brought on their finishers but before they got into their stride MK scored another converted try. The score line was becoming tight and this gelled Buzzards into their second wind and the team finished strongly with two more tries, the last coming from Andrew Harris-Smith running diagonally the entire length of pitch to score in the corner.

The team manager, Ryan Andrew was so pleased with the performance he bought the entire team a drink and was heard to complain that his wallet is now nearly as light as everyone else’s.

Leighton Buzzard RFC welcome all new players of all age and ability. Training is Tuesday and Thursday with Touch Rugby Wednesday, 7pm on the training field on all three evenings.

Mini & Junior Rugby every Sunday 10am to midday.
