Bucks beat Brave Buzzards U15s at the death

After a disappointing time on the road last week, the u15s welcomed our old friends at Buckingham for our first home game of the season. With 17 players unavailable due to injury, illness or school commitments, it was something of a makeshift side that started the game, with debuts handed to Max and Sam, and with Albie and Harrison playing only their second full games.

The Buzzards’ inexperience showed as Buckingham raced into a 14-0 lead after only 12 minutes, before a try from Jacob and 2 from today’s captain, Liam (the last of which was converted by George) saw the home team go into half time with a narrow 17-14 lead.

The second half was equally intense, and attritional, as both sides added to their already lengthy injury lists as the boys put everything into securing a win. Buckingham scored first before a try under the posts from Leo (converted by George), saw the Buzz stretch to a 24-21 lead. With minutes left, could the tiring Buzzard boys hold on? Sadly not, as in the final minute some resolute and steadfast defending from our boys looked to have kept the greens at bay, until a moment of magic from Buckingham in a kick that had both accuracy and a little luck, let Buckingham’s winger in to score a final seconds winner. The conversation which made it 24-28 was the last kick of the game, but all the boys could walk off with heads held high.

So lessons learned in terms of discipline and game management but positive performances all round.

Shouts out to the forward trio of Albie, Connor and Callum who were committed in the tackle and breakdown (and whose lineouts looked solid), Jacob (opposition man of the match), Liam, not only captaining the side for the first time but also having a great impact in his first game at 8, and parents’ man of the match Ethan who switched positions today to put a good performance in on the wing.
