Colts V Bletchley 8th October 2017

On a warm and clear day Leighton Buzzard U18 Colts,  travelled to Bletchley for their third game of the season. In warm up it was clear that Bletchley had some large players in their squad so a tough physical morning was on the cards, and so it was to be. Bletchley kicked off but some fine initial passing from Buzzards saw them take the game to the home side.

Back came Bletchley with their 10 making good territory with his kicking game. With ball in hand Buzzards were looking to move the ball away from the big Bletchley lads but frequently turned the ball over at key times. After a stalemate for much of the half Leighton finally took the lead just before half time when Keir Wheeler picked from the scrum and drew the defence before offloading for James Brett to dive over.

With a large squad on the day Buzzards made some half time changes and the physical game from Bletchley put Leighton back under pressure. John Fudge put in a fine performance in midfield as Buzzards started to click into gear. A sustained period of pressure drew a 5m penalty and clever work from Harry Charter created a simple overlap that quick passing exploited for Sam Beaumont to walk in the second score. Bletchley were then reduced to 14 players after a high tackle but this spurred them on to pile on a sustained period of pressure that resulted in a powerful drive from their forwards and complete mayhem in the Buzzard defence.

Bletchley scored a well deserved try that was well converted to bring the score to 7-10 in Leighton’s favour. With the clock ticking and the game in the balance the Buzzard lads dug deep to pile the pressure back on and following another slick handling move hooker Jacob Murtagh showed wonderful footwork before finishing powerfully.

Final score Bletchley Colts 7 – 15 Leighton Buzzard Colts
