Academy Match Reports 2017-18

Junior Academy v Oundle 12th November 2017

Following a long drive to Oundle RFC on Sunday, the Buzzards Junior Academy squad were back in action in an U15 East Midlands Cup match.

Both sides lined up together prior to the match to observe a minutes silence and then the action began.

In a frenetic first 5 minutes, Oundle were the first side on the scoreboard scoring a well-worked Try but failing to kick the Conversion.

This served to spur the Buzzards into action and they began to exert a dominance in the forwards with some superb rucking and hard driving runs up the middle of the park.

Tom Charter managed to bundle over the line for his first of the afternoon following some excellent forward play to level the scores.

By now the Buzzard backs were starting to run hard and direct at the heart of the Oundle defence and started to make inroads with slick handling and support play, which unleashed Jack Miller who scored the second of the afternoons Tries for LB.

During the second half, the Buzzard dominance was soon telling with Oundle thwarted at every attempt and the ball constantly being turned over for the Buzzard boys to capitalise with 2 more Tries, firstly for Kai Baines and then a second of the day for Tom Charter.

This was a great team performance, against the toughest opposition that many of these youngsters have yet played and is a real testament to the work of the Junior Academy system.
