Leighton Buzzard 2nd 26 v 5 Milton Keynes 2nd

At the third time of asking this season Buzzard 2nd beat Milton Keynes 2nd. In an evenly contested game Buzzard won 26 points to 5.

At the kick off outset Buzzards showed their desire to run the game, receiving the ball at the kick off Andy Mason blasted his way through the oncoming Milton Keynes players, at the ruck the ball was sent wide through the backs releasing George Vincent to sprint half the length of field being tackled just short of the line. Several phases of attack by Buzzards were thwarted by a resolute Milton Keynes defence before they in turn set about waves of attack on Buzzards try line but without success.

Relieved, again Buzzards attacked through close play amongst the forwards with Andy Mason, Jon Henkes, Gary Low, Callum Creber and Rhys Betley progressively wearing down Milton Keynes. This eventually released Andy Mason who scored in the 20th minute under the posts from 50 metres out. The try being converted by Jake Wheeler.

At the restart Buzzards secured possession at a ruck following some close quarters wrestling amongst the opposing forwards, with Milton Keynes pressing hard Jake Wheeler spotted a huge gap behind their defensive line and put a lovely cross field kick in for George Vincent to gather and race in to score under the posts, converted by Jake.

As half-time approached Buzzards repeated the formula that led to the opening try this time setting Callum Creber free to complete a carbon copy of Mason’s try, again converted by Wheeler.

The second half was a more evenly contested affair and whilst Buzzards spent the majority of the time in Milton Keynes half it took until the 25th minute for Buzzards to score their fourth try of the afternoon through snipping scrum half dive by Leigh Draper. The conversion was missed.

Ten minutes later some poor alignment of Buzzards defence allowed Milton Keynes to score wide out on the left wing.

The final score being Buzzards 26 – 5 Milton Keynes.
