Leighton Buzzard RFC U13’s vs. St. Neots,Wrights Meadow, 31st March 2019
Buzzards hosted St. Neots U13’s in what turned out to be an intense, closely contested match.
Buzzards started well and opened the scoring through Tyler Rose with a well worked backs move. Further tries followed as the forwards took the game directly to the St. Neots team with direct running from Owen Merrison.
Oakley Holmes and Riley Moffat were solid in defence as they shut-down most of the opponents attacks down the wings.
Two Buzzards players got injured and the team seemed to lose their momentum and allowed their opponents back into the game as the visiting side grew in confidence and scored some impressive tries of their own. At the halfway stage LB were trailing 15-25.
Playing with the wind behind them in the second half, the lads dug in and demonstrated some sound rucking to look after their own ball and on occasion, pinch their oppositions.
George de Voogt continued to run hard at the opposition and consistently made ground over the gain line although too often the final pass didn’t go to hand.
Buzzards slowly clawed their way back into the match and from a solid attacking scrum, anchored by Alfie Vincent and Josh Knights, drew level with a well taken solo try from Jamie West who crashed over the try line.
The Buzzards had their tails up and sensed victory as the match entered the last five minutes of play and it was once again Tyler Rose who showed his impressive turn of speed and agility to evade the St. Neots defence and win the game for the young Buzzards.
The coaches were delighted at the effort and commitment of all the players in what was a resilient team performance and a well-deserved victory. A special mention to Taia Dumpleton who had to leave the field due to injury.
