Leighton Buzzard Rugby Club Announce New Head Coach and a Director of Rugby Operations for 2017-18 season

 

Following the departure of long time coaching team Alban Turney and Andy Micans Leighton Buzzard RFC has recruited a new Head coach for the senior men’s teams. Tom Mowbray has played at national leagues level for  Tring and Chinnor is currently a development office with the RFU and a qualified level 2 coach.

 

The clubs new Director of Rugby Operations Dave Larham, was instrumental in bringing Tom to the club and is currently working on plans for the coaching structure at the club, from minis to 1st team. Dave said  “I would like to thank the Board of Directors at Leighton Buzzard RFC for offering me this exciting opportunity to be Director of Rugby Operations at Wright’s Meadow.

My primary responsibility will be to develop the playing policy of the Club and I am delighted to be working with new Head Coach Tom Mowbray; who have I have coached previously at Tring RUFC and Chinnor RFC and work with at the RFU. Tom will be joined by a new look coaching team and management team, recruited to build on the great work performed by previous coaches Alban Turney and Andy Micans; both of whom I would like to personally thank for their professionalism and commitment over many years.

I look forward to the opportunities and challenges in helping to support the development of our Senior Rugby, Senior Academy, Junior Academy and Minis; and building a culture of continual improvement and enjoyment.

We have five weeks until the start of pre-season and I look forward to getting to know our existing player-base while trying to recruit new adult and junior players in to Leighton Buzzard RFC.

Tom Mowbray, new Head coach; “I would like to thank everyone at Leighton Buzzard RFC for giving me this opportunity to be head coach at Wright’s Meadow. I would personally like to thank Alban and Andy for their hard work and loyalty to Leighton Buzzard, they have built a fantastic squad here at Wright’s Meadow and I am very excited to build on their hard work.

 

I’m also looking forward to working closely with new Director of Rugby Operations Dave Larham, over the years we have built a strong relationship through the rugby world. He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge having been Head coach at Aylesbury RFC for many years, and working  with Wasps through the DPP program. I’m very excited to find out what the future brings at Wright’s Meadow and to develop and drive this senior squad forward.”

 

Club Chairman Gordon Fletcher; “After a number of successful years, including promotion and a welcome return to Midlands 1 rugby, the coaching team, Alban and Andy felt it was time to step aside. I would like to thank them for their efforts both as players and then as coaches for their many years of loyal service to the Buzzards.

I would also like to thank Claire Batty, our physio who is stepping down after a number of years for her commitment and professionalism when caring for players both on the field of play and those returning from injury to full fitness again.

This is a fantastic new direction for the club and Dave as Director of Rugby Operations and Tom as Head Coach are looking to build a coaching team and develop our coaches at all levels within the club. This will help us to develop our players to enable everyone to play at  the highest level possible for Leighton Buzzard Rugby Club. “

 

Leighton Buzzard will hold an open day at the club on the 2nd July for all mini, junior and senior players both new and existing.  Tom and Dave will be looking to meet all senior the players and coaches prior to the start of pre-season training on the 4th July. The first league game of the new season is at home on the 2nd September against newly promoted Oundle.
