U15s Beaten by Strong Stockwood

This Sunday saw Leighton Buzzard U15s welcome Stockwood Park to Wright’s Meadow for this season’s first fixture. It wasn’t quite the result Buzzards were hoping for, losing 27-5 to well drilled and physical Stockwood Park team.

The first half saw the Buzzards spend the first 20 mins in Stockwood’s half with some excellent defensive work pinning the opposition back. A skill the coaches were delighted to see. With a couple of lucky breaks, Stockwood Park scored a couple of excellent breakaway tries, against the run of play. This saw Buzzards lose some shape defensively and make a few mistakes in play.

The forwards were excellent and again out-scrummaged a much bigger pack carrying on from last year’s success. Also, their second phase play was very encouraging and matched Stockwood Park in every part of the game.

The second half saw Stockwood take control of the game, but this didn’t stop the Buzzards from scoring an excellent try with a slick Backs move with a ball down the line and LB debutant Simon Bobrowski going over for a superb try.

All in all, the coaches were extremely pleased with Buzzard’s first game of the season. Lots of positives and plenty to work on going forward.

A big shout-out goes to our two debutants, Simon Bobrowski and Henry Jay. Well played, welcome to the team!

The whole squad were excellent today. Two players, in particular, stood out and deserve a special mention. Forward of the game went to Zach Short for catching a high ball under pressure, some solid carries and when rested was keen to get back on. On his return to the front row (2nd position), he did a sterling job showing what a great asset to the squad he is.

There were a few contenders for Back of the game. A very close second was David Booth for his immense tackling, but this week goes to Cormac Clancy. He was tireless in defence, his positional awareness coming into the attacking line and chasing every ball. Superb effort.

Next week see the boys travel to Bedford School for the DPP festival and hopefully build on today’s achievements.
