The U8s, U7s and Fledglings enjoyed rare autumn sun in a 3-way clash with St Albans & Stockwood Park on 10th November. A great turnout from all the clubs meant that there were around 100 minis displaying their skills during the morning.
After a vigorous hour’s training, the rugby was halted at 11 o’clock, to observe 2 minutes silence in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of The Armistice. The whistle blew 2 shrill bursts and silence fell over Wrights Meadow in a moving tribute that remains an important part of the LBRFC tradition. Players from all 3 clubs were lined up alongside the pitch, linking arms with the player next to them, regardless of shirt colour, all pausing to remember those that laid down their lives in pursuit of our freedom.
One blast on the whistle and noise burst back onto the pitch, the brief period of reflection seeming to have injected extra spirit into the 3 teams which was demonstrated in some furious rugby being played to a very high standard. The U8’s in particular were moving the ball around with few mistakes and providing a iron defence that was rarely penetrated by the opposition.
