Minis match report 2018-2019

U9 at Saracens 2nd March 2019

Leighton Buzzard U9s made the short trip into North London to play at the Saracens Core Values Festival at Allianz Park.  We faced Letchworth Garden City, Saracens 1 and Old Grammarians in three 13min matches on the perfectly manicured 4G pitch.  The matches were all keenly contested with the team working hard both in attack and defence, scoring some well worked tries and securing several turnovers from stoic defence. The guys and girls played their hearts out for each other, proved tough competition in all their matches and upheld the Saracen core values of Honesty, Work Rate, Discipline and Humility.

Following the festival we were fortunate to watch Saracens take on Northampton Saints. Saracens built a fine first half lead, securing the bonus point within the first 30 minutes. But a strong fight back in the second half by Northampton saw them make the scoreboard more respectable with the final score 36-17 to the home side. The kids cheered themselves hoarse and waved their flags throughout, all the time with massive grins on their faces.

As the day drew to a close, some of the kids managed to get an autograph or selfie with some of their premiership heroes and spent a final few minutes kicking rugby balls over the posts and into the stands at Allianz park.  A fine end to a truly memorable day at Saracens.
