Under 12s 20th December 2018

The final fixture for the U12s of the 2018 calendar year saw St Albans travel to Buzzards. Following a challenging fixture against Towcestrians the previous week this was an opportunity for the squad to finish the year on a high, and they did this in style.

With St Albans low on numbers, coach Harry Charter had the luxury of ringing the changes through the squad. With a number of Buzzards players kindly volunteering to play for the opposition it presented the opportunity for all players to have some extended game time. Buzzards also welcomed back Archie Corkett from a long standing injury. Buzzards played some free-flowing rugby creating a number of try scoring opportunities throughout the team. Jack Charter ran in a hat-rick of tries in the first match supported by Lewis Jeans and Billy Taylor who scored his first try in the blue and white of Buzzards to the delight of his team-mates and the watching spectators.

In the next match Charlie Rumens scored a brace along with Lewis Jeans, whilst Harrison Debbage-Price and Jack Charter also kept the scorers busy. Jack Charter was a constant thorn in the St Albans side with a series of strong, sniping runs, turning creator as well as try scorer.

In the third and final match Charlie Rumens scored once again for Buzzards whilst Billy Quinn went agonisingly close after a clever in and out move that created space for himself space. He grounded the ball just short of the try line having mis-judged the pitch markings. Meanwhile, Lewis Jeans wearing the blue and yellow of St Albans, scored against his own team to round off the match.

The morning was finished with a game of rugby tennis with both sides combining to face the parents and coaches. Needless to say the adults prevailed showing the boys they have a way to go before the result will be over-turned!

Buzzards U12s would like to wish all players and parents a wonderful Christmas and New Year and look forward to a busy January when mid-week training will start on a fortnightly basis following the first training session of 2019 on Sunday 6th January. With fixtures against Milton Keynes, Ampthill and Luton all to come in January there is a lot to come back to in the New Year.
