Under 15’s v St Neots 17th September 2017
Sunday saw the first ever League fixture for the U15 squad, at home against St Neots RFC.
Again, drawing on the Junior Academy set-up with many U14’s making up the ranks, the Buzzards fielded a good mix of strength and speed.
The contest was very evenly matched with neither side giving much away. Mistakes on both sides saw the ball turned over too much for the watching Coaches and supporters in the opening 15 minutes. Eventually Buzzards managed to gain possession and turn it into an advantage with winger Rhys Thorne again showing his blistering pace running in a Try from his own half having broken through at least 5 tackles. Tomas Jeans kicked the Conversion.
After a few minutes and lots of Penalty infringements St Neots had the opportunity to narrow the gap with a kick at goal, which unfortunately for them was missed. half Time 7 – 0.
After some strong words from the Coaching team at Half-time, Buzzards seemed back to their normal slick handling ways at last and managed to bombard the St Neots defence with wave upon wave of attack, the defence held firm and gradually the momentum shifted in their favour eventually resulting in a Try of their own. This made for a very tense last quarter with both sides attacking at pace but both defences standing firm.
In the dying seconds of the match and after sustained attacking play in the St neots 22, Tom Charter managed to bulldoze his way over the line for the final score of the match.
12 – 5 Final Score.
Both sets of coaches agreed that this was a fine display of rugby with the defense of both teams praised for their work.
