Under 16's Match Reports 2015-2016

Under 16s win Kettering Festival

On 17th April Leighton Buzzard Academy sent a squad of U16 players to play in the annual Kettering Rugby sevens.  Over the past 12 months our U16 players have all played U17 and some U18 rugby on a regular basis as part of their continued development but this tournament was a rare outing against players of their own age.  7’s matches are two halves of 7 minutes each way and fitness and application are very important. The more demanding rugby that they have been playing was clear as they effortlessly went through the group stages with convincing victories over Stewart and Lloyds, Oakham and Broadstreet (one victory was by over 50 points). Tough rugby has also improved their physical fitness and mental toughness and again this was evident as they comfortably overcame a tricky semi final against St Neots. The final brought together what was widely acknowledged as the two very best sides in the tournament as Leighton lined up against Rushden and Higham. Buzzard scored two early tries and Rushden replied with one of their own. Buzzards then added a crucial third bang on half time. The second half was all Buzzards as they went on to win the trophy with a 31-7 victory.

The Buzzard boys are really growing into fine rugby players and in attack and defence they were first class conceding only four tries all day. Callum Campbell, Keir Wheeler, Reece Payne, Jonathan Quail, Max Thomas, Sam Beer, James Brett, Harry McBrearty, Jacob Murtagh, James Tingey, Louis Beer and Felix Fiske you done yourselves and your club very proud indeed.u162
