Six Buzzard players were in action for 3 Counties Barbarians against Reading Abbey RFC on Sunday. Sam Beaumont, Julian Gallie, George Pratt, George Vincent, Rhys and Dane Richards played influential roles in the Barbarians side that won 22 – 15 against the tough Abbey team.
The Buzzard players made up most of the back line, tackled well against the determined Abbey and made key breakthroughs to make life difficult for Abbey. The first half was very even, Barbarians started well but Abbey applied the pressure in the last 20 minutes.
Behind 5-12 at half-time, Gallie, after a previous attempt was held up, was in close support collecting a pop pass to power through 3 defenders to score. Beaumont also had an earlier attempt fall short but, from a Barbarian scrum, found a gap to charge through to put Barbarians into a narrow lead. From another Barbarians scrum, Gallie chose a fine line, collecting from Beaumont to sprint through and score under the posts.
