Buzzards U11 kick-off rugby season with two festivals
Leighton Buzzard U11’s started the 2017/18 season in impressive fashion this weekend participating in the Land Rover Cup at Northampton Saints on Saturday followed by the Kirk Noakes Mini Festival on Sunday. Having had three weeks of early-season training with several new players joining the age group, the festivals gave the whole squad a chance to play their first competitive fixtures of the season.
On Saturday a squad of 13 players travelled to Northampton Saints taking part in the annual Land Rover Cup competition. 24 teams from across the East Midlands were drawn together with Buzzards pitched against Olney, Northampton Old Scouts and ONs, also from Northampton. The boys acquitted themselves superbly coming second in the pool with a win, a draw and a loss. Moving to the second phase a depleted squad took on Tabard losing narrowly, before coming up against a strong side from Towcester. The highlight for all players was the opportunity to join all teams in a parade around the pitch during half-time of the Aviva Premiership fixture between Saints v Harlequins.
Buzzards v Olney: 2-1 (Lewis Jeans 2 tries)
Buzzards v Old Scouts: 2-2 (Lewis Jeans & Jack Charter)
Buzzards v ONs: 2-2 (Billy Quinn 2 tries)
Buzzards x Tabard: 1-2 (Lewis Jeans)
Buzzards v Towcester: 0-4
On Sunday the boys played over in Buckingham with a number of players representing Buzzards for the first time including Ben Eggleton, Zac Hinds and Charlie Rumens. Once again, the team gave an excellent account of themselves against some tough opposition.
Buzzards v Milton Keynes: 0-2
Buzzards v Aylesbury: 6-0 (Lewis Jeans, Jack Charter, Zac Hinds, Alex Cartwright & Ben Eggleton 2)
Buzzards v Chinnor: 4-1 (Alex Cartwright, Jack Charter, Charlie Rumens, Ben Eggleton)
