For the first time ever Leighton Buzzard’s Women and Girls team hosted three games at our very own Wright’s Meadow. Our U13s and U15s, with combined forces from Tring and Aylesbury, held contact games against Finchley with our Women’s team hosting a touch rugby game with Finchley Women. The U15s game began with a great kick-off accompanied by Maddy scoring an outstanding try within the first 15 minutes. She charged down the pitch catching both teams out with her speed. It was then secured with an excellent conversion straight through the middle of the posts. The U15s showed great power as it took over 3 girls to tackle our very own Neve. A tough game that ended with a final score of 17-17. Meanwhile, our U13s were proving to be a forced to be reckoned with giving Finchley a hard time by performing tackle after tackle. They were constantly putting pressure and challenging Finchley ending with a close score of 7-6 to Buzzards.
On Pitch 1 our Women’s team held a friendly game of touch against Finchley showing yet again what a powerhouse Leighton Buzzard’s Women’s team is. They executed brilliant tries during each quarter of the game supported by not only their team mates on the side, but a large group of enthusiastic supports encouraging our Women. Their teamwork, determination and sportsmanship carried through each quarter resulted in a triumphant win of 11-5 to Leighton Buzzard.
Leighton Buzzard Women’s and Girls returning to Wright’s Meadow is only the beginning of their journey here and have been exemplary in showing Women and Girls in sport ahead of International Women’s Day this week on Tuesday 8th March.
